Water-Repellent Coated Chemical Carton
Surface water-repellent treatment that beads moisture and protects print in humid stores.
Overview
This carton applies a water-repellent treatment to the outer surface, causing moisture to bead and run off instead of wicking into the board. It is the standard specification for products stored in unheated warehouses, transported by open truck or handled in humid climates.
How the barrier works
A fluorocarbon-free, water-based repellent is applied on the coating unit and cured in-line. It lowers the surface energy of the liner so that water droplets remain spherical and roll away, while the board underneath retains its full compression strength.
Print protection
Because the treatment sits above the ink film, printed panels keep their contrast after repeated wetting and drying cycles. This preserves barcode readability and statutory text, both of which are frequently lost on untreated cartons in humid stores.
Performance verification
Cobb value and contact-angle measurements are taken on production samples, and we run a simulated rain test in our ISTA laboratory for customers who ship through monsoon conditions. Treatment can be applied to selected panels only, if full coverage is not required.
